Location Scouting

Due to all being very active it was hard for us to be able to meet up all at the same time to be able to work together. We decided to film all of our piece on scene in Chelmsford and Broomfield.

News Report entrance Time-lapse

We looked at filming our news report at the top of chelmsford high street near shire hall. Unfortunately once we got up there we realised that it was quite an empty part of the city centre compared to other places. We therefore decided not to film here due to it lacking the hustle and bustle of the public we required to have the additional effect on this scene. We did however decided to film our time-lapse here. When we were at the bottom of the high street unfortunately the camera became to much of an attraction and therefore it meant that anyone who walked past would look at the camera.

News Report Interview
As I said above, the top of the high street is very empty and therefore it did not suit our needs for this specific part of the film. We decided to move to the bottom of the high street where we found it to be a lot busier. Even though this meant we had people looking at the camera in the background it added a realistic effect to it as this always happens when real life public news reports are occuring. Our exact location was on the bridge which connects the bottom of Chelmsford High Street to the bottom of Moulsham Street, Baddow Road and the surrounding areas as seen below.

We considered filming our news report elsewhere in the city such as the train station. We thought this would be a great spot due to all the commuters getting of trains and quickly going fast the camera. This would add the fat that they may be shocked by this new news but unfortunately due to it being within 15 seconds of the bus station there is always buses pulling in and out of the bus stop outside. this meant that it would be very hard to do the news report as there will always be nice pollution coming from the buses. We trie dot film it but our hypothesis of the buses being too loud was correct and therefore decided that we should film at the bottom of the high street.

Living room scene

For our scenes of Melisa watching the news report we needed to use a living room. We compared all three of our living rooms and decided which one was more suitable.

Above is one of the potential locations. Due to the length and width this room was preferred as it allowed us to move the round 4 seater sofa into the middle of the room. The space behind the sofa meant we were able to perfect the technical over the shoulder shot. The lighting from the window on the right meant it was perfect as the actor sitting on the sofa was visible on camera even when the the lens was focused on the television.

Here is our second potential location. This room lacks the width and therefore means that it would be hard to get the over the shoulder shot. Even though there is a window in the background bringing in lots of light there is also a window just behind the television meaning that it would be very hard to focus on the person while they are watching the television. Due to the reason we decided to go with the top location.

List of scenes and how they will work

  1. Actor (Melisa) walks down the stairs and into the living room, she then sits down. Multiple techniques will be used here such as match on action, 180 degree rule etc.
  2. Time-lapse of public walking up Chelmsford High Street with the news logo fading in. Dramatic music will be played over this.
  3. Shot of Conor (Actor) in the high street dressed in a suit holding the microphone. He will report the breaking news of this “Ban on Talking”. The graphics of the news report will be on top of this. We are aiming to make it as professional as possible.
  4. Over the shoulder shot of Actor (Melisa) sitting on the sofa watching the TV. This shot and the shot above will alternate multiple times.
  5. The title of the film will then appear (Decorum).
  6. Multiple shots of videos and clips showing social media and how the world is evolving due to technology will then be shown. Throughout this credits will appear.

Institutional logo why we have chosen

We have chosen this logo due to its quirkiness as well as the quality of the design and the professionalism. It represents our company well. The logo was made in Adobe Photoshop CS5 using multiple layers swell as certain blending options swell as drop shadows.

So far, this is the only dialogue in our film. It is likely that it will stay this way.

How we will Organise Props & Costumes

News Reporter

We have bought our news reporter a suit, smart jacket, smart shoes, tie and scarf.
We have also bought a microphone to use as a prop for when we film our news report.

Rebel Actor

We have bought our actor leggings and a jumper for when around the house. We do not expect them to be looking their best as this is going to be morning news and as if they have just woke up from bed.

Mise En Scene Consideration

In our film opening, we will need to consider how we use mise en scene to make sure that the props and costumes in the scene let the audience understand the genre and the types of characters in the film.

We will make sure to include appropriate clothing and props in order to fully immerse the audience in the film.

As we are filming a news report, we wanted to ensure that we filmed a place that is busy like it would when on live TV. We decided to film at Chelmsford as from past experiences we know this is very busy on a Saturday lunch time. We are planning to have our actor wearing a suit to look professional. We also plan to give him a mic so the audience are able to identify his role within the film opening straight away.

The rest of the film is planned to be set within a house. When at a house, we will want our actor to dress in lounge wear (eg. Tracksuit bottoms and jumper) so it fits in with the narrative. We want all furniture to be included within the shot so it looks like a normal living room and make sure the TV is included.

This is just a basis for us to expand our ideas off of. These here are our initial ideas when we chose to make our film. Some of these sticky notes are likely to change or develop depending on how we feel when it comes to filming. The use of this allows us to refer back to some of the ideas we had so that when we are shooting we have some ideas and a plan.

Post On Our Film Title and Why We Have Chosen It

DECORUM

Definition

Appropriate Behaviour and Good Manners

Why?

We have chosen this title due to the hypocritical statement it gives across to the audience. We also think it sounds big and bold and gives off a big statement as well as a word that can be remembered.
